Wow wow wow!

Can’t believe it’s been 2 days since I posted! Sorry, I know I promised links for those who want the chance to practice French daily but I didn’t get the chance!
But I’m back now: ready and raring to go with some more useful phrases. So watch this space!

ecodex asked: No, thank you!!! Keep'em coming. I'm now in french 201 here at my school. I feel like I'm struggling a litte bit so i am trying to incorporate the french language into my day as much as I can. Are you a french person? What would you recommend to incorporate it more? I truly wish there was a french channel I could watch here where I live..

Hey that’s a great question. Firstly, don’t ever give up just cos you’re finding something tough otherwise you’ll never do anything! French is not the easiest language but it’s worth it! I’ll post some links later to help you on an everyday basis :)

Verlan lesson no. 2

So, I hope you understood the first post about verlan. After writing it, I was a bit worried that I had started rambling a bit. If you have any questions or feedback, please let me know :)

So, here are today’s words to add to your verlan dictionary:

 • ouf : fou ~ the word fou can be translated in many ways according to the context or situation: crazy, mad, stupid… ouf is a relatively common verlan word (my boyfriend often calls me ouf) so don’t be surprised to here “t’es ouf ou quoi?!” if you do something a bit daft or even “c’est un ouf, lui!” about the village oddball.
 • teubé : bête ~ Someone not understanding what you’re saying no matter how many times you say it? This word can be directly translated as “stupid” in English and is a little harder than calling someone an oufElle m’a expliqué comme j’étais teubé! She explained it to me as if I were stupid!
 • faire ièche à quelqu’un : faire chier à quelqu’un ~ if you go back to my very first posts, you will see a post entitled se faire chier. This is a similar saying but instead of being bored, you are annoying someone else - faire chier à quelqu’un. Il fait ièche à Nico or Tu me fais ièche! Note: like se faire chier - this is considered vulgar so be careful where you use it!

Salut!

~ <3 ~

At the beginning, I wasn’t sure if anyone would actually be interested in my blog but yes you are!

So one thousand thank yous!

Bonne Nuit Mes Petits Francophiles!

That’s all for today I’m afraid but stop by tomorrow for more weird things the French say and also for a second post on Verlan =)

A demain!

Today’ photo is of Montmartre this summer. I love wandering around this place. Nice bars and interesting shops and, of course, and plenty of crazy people to watch.

lit. To be next to one’s shoes - you may also see this written as marcher à coté de ses pompes. The bf tells me that they usually use être but marcher would be understood. Being next to your shoes in France means that you are not all there, a bit like etre à l’ouest. E.g. Il ne sait pas ce qu’il fait, il est à coté de ses pompes!

aller se faire cuire un oeuf

lit. To go cook oneself an egg - Have you heard this but you’re not in the slightest bit hungry? Well, more than likely, you’ve annoyed someone and they’ve told you to go away. The French have many, many different and elaborate ways to tell people to get lost. Va te faire cuire un oeuf is just one of them =)

appuyer sur le champignon

lit. to press on the mushroom - not at all to do with fungi but all to do with cars. My boyfriend hates it when people drive slow. In order to speed them up, he tells them appuyez sur le champignon! Just like we would tell someone to step on it in English.

en avoir ras-le-bol

lit. to have a bowl full - often used in first person j’en ai ras-le-bol, this expression is the equivalent of the English “I’ve had it up to here”, meaning that you’ve had enough of something.

lit. To place/put a rabbit - so, I have this friend who’s a bit unlucky in love. Last weekend she organised to go on a little rendez-vous with someone that she had met in a bar. Sad thing is, he stood her up. Or in French il l’a posé un lapin :(

mona-lena asked: Hi I'm french and I must tell you that I love your tumblr, I can't stop laughing! Thanks for this funny tribute to frenchies :)

Hey! Thank you so much for your feedback! So happy that people like it =)

French Adventuring

So I’ve started to put a few random photos on here just to liven the place up a bit, but I don’t want to add loads and turn this into a page of pictures. This is primarily a page to learn French - and besides my photos aren’t terribly interesting so you may not want them clogging up your tumblr feed.

However, if you would like to see my photos of Paris and other places in France, then please head over to my main tumblr page :)

Not only do the French say crazy things, they also do crazy things! You can find this gem singing up by Montmartre! C’était un plaisir :)
The dancing Italians next to her were extremely relou ;P
